Shell Houston Open Betting Preview

Weekly Betting preview for the PGA Tour The Shell Houston Open is the final tournament on the PGA Tour before the Masters and offers the final place in the field for the first major of the year next week – this going to the winner if they haven’t already booked their place. This actually makes the tournament something of a weird mix – players who are not heading to Augusta already desperately wanting the win this week, with the players…

Valero Texas Open – Walker Wins

As expected, Jimmy Walker went on to complete victory at the Valero Texas Open yesterday. After a few consecutive weeks of dramatic finishes on the PGA tour, yesterday the eventual winner was never really in doubt, always having enough in hand to claim the victory, eventually finishing the same 4 shots ahead of Jordan Spieth that he started the day with. Spieth added some drama to the event late on with a run of birdies, but this just seemed to…

Valero Texas Open Day 3 Review

It’s official now. Jimmy Walker is the nuts. When he suddenly won three tournaments in a very short space of time a couple of years ago, although a great story, it didn’t necessarily mean that he was one of the world’s best players – it may well have been a purple patch relatively late in his career. However, a purple patch doesn’t last this long and heading into the final few holes last night, he looked like a man in…

Valero Texas Open Day Two

The second day of the Valero Texas Open was something of a strange one, especially for someone watching the event on TV. This was because all of the leaders from day one went out in the morning on day two and they were all safely in the clubhouse by the time the TV cameras started showing the coverage in the afternoon. This made for three hours of coverage that never involved players anywhere near the top of the leader board, the…

Golf and the Olympic Games

We are just over 16 months away from the Olympic Games in Brazil, an event that sees golf included for the first time since 1904. As a golf fan, I think this will be a truly interesting event, but I also have some reservations and here I’ll explain why. In the past I’ve always had the opinion that if a sport is to be included in the Olympic Games then it should only be included if the event is seen…

Valero Texas Open – The Winds of day one

Day one of the Valero Texas Open was possibly one of the most interesting days on the tour so far this year, much of this due to the weather. The early starters had a terrible time with the wind, where any score of three over par or better was an excellent one. Unfortunately many players went much higher than this, a prime example being defending champion and one of my picks for the week, Steven Bowditch. He went round in…

Archive Series (3) – Arnold Palmer wins his fourth and final Masters

In 1964 Arnold Palmer won his fourth Masters title which would also become the final Major win of his career. The report at the time made some very interesting reading, as there were concerns at the time that Palmer was committing too much time to his business interests and a young gun by the name of Jack Nicklaus was taking over the show having already won 3 Majors. With almost two years without a Major win, many were thinking that…

Valero Texas Open Betting Preview

Weekly Betting preview for the PGA Tour The Masters is just a couple of weeks away and the Arnold Palmer Invitational last week was the last significant event before the first major of the season. In between we have the Valero Texas Open and the Shell Houston Open and although tournaments in their own right, will be seen as warm up events for many heading to Augusta (of course, much of the field won’t have qualified for Augusta). Two players…

Arnold Palmer Invitational Review

The honours went to Matt Every this week, who completed the perfect defence of his title with a 1 shot victory at Bay Hill. Followers of this site will know that Henrik Stenson was my number one tip for the week and Henrik would end up just one shot shy. The last couple of weeks have seen winning selections in Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth, both being in events where there were times when I thought neither had a chance…

Arnold Palmer Invitational Day 2 Review

Leader Morgan Hoffman went out early on day two and it was clear he was in no mood to relinquish that lead, shooting a 65 that at one point included 6 birdies in a run of 7 holes. It was evident that his total of -13 would have the halfway lead, but the question was, how big that lead would actually be? After finishing the round it looked like he might lead by 5 or 6, however it was soon…
